  What We Do

Plasterers provide the interior and exterior finishes of buildings and houses using primarily hand tools and a wide variety of materials.  Machines are also used to apply materials, but handcraft skills are the majority of the work.  Conventional plaster, veneer plaster, stucco, and thermal systems are but a few of the products that are used in the plastering industry.

 Admission Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • I-9 documentation to verify eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Physical ability to do perform the work of the trade
  • Applicants may be required to submit to drug testing, if it is a condition of employment.

Application Procedure

Applicants must complete and submit an application form and provide I-9 documentation.  A physical assessment will be scheduled as needed to create an eligible pool of applicants, and those with a passing score of 70% or higher will be placed on a ranked list.  Applicants will be offered entry into the apprenticeship and employment with a Local 528 contractor as soon as work becomes available, and will be required to join Cement Masons and Plasterers Local 528.  Applicants may be required to submit to drug testing, if it is a condition of employment.

All new apprentices are required to take COMPASS Reading, Writing and Math Skills tests.  Those not achieving the target scores will be recommended for adult education or English as a Second Language classes, based on need, and must retake and pass the COMPASS test within the initial probationary period of 1,400 hours of employment.

Term of Apprenticeship

Total program length is 7000 hours of on-the-job training and 504 hours of supplemental instruction, with credit given for skills attained through previous experience.  With no previous experience in the trade, and successful completion of program requirements, it takes about three and a half years to attain journeyman status.

The Western Washington Plasterers Apprenticeship Program admits students of any race, color, sex, national and ethnic origin.  Women are encouraged to apply.
