Good News!
The merger between the Cement Masons and Plasterers Apprenticeship Trusts was a smooth transition. The Apprenticeships remain separate, but the administration of the two programs was combined to cut costs.
Mark Maher is now the Coordinator of the Plasterers' Apprenticeship, as well as the Cement Masons' , and my new title is Education Director. I will continue to teach classes, both in Renton and Pasco, will advise on curriculum, and be the support and contact for our Plasterer apprentices.
On a side note, we have been approved for a substantial grant to be used for journey and apprentice level training in the energy efficient and green aspects of our trade. It is important for everyone to take the training and get involved in this important new work, for the future of our industry, our union, the environment, and your livelihoods! More information about new classes will be posted soon.
I would like to thank Ed Case for helping with Fall classes. All journeyman and contractors are free to come observe training, and lend your expertise to our future tradesmen.
Fraternally,
Matt Markham

Work has been very spotty. Apprentices out of work should remember to call the Hall every week, and to also check in regularly with me.
I would like to thank Tim O'Rear and Chuck Banks for their participation in June's apprenticeship training class. It was nice to have journeymen helping out apprentices in class and volunteering their time.
We are adding green products into our curriculum. I recently went to a seminar on bioLime - www.bioLime.org - thought the product was great, and look forward to introducing it to the apprentices in the fall. It's time we all start to think green - green products for a better future - for our environment and our union.

We just completed our Journeymen Upgrade Classes with 29 members receiving Completion Certificates. I would like to thank everyone who attended. If you missed a class and need to make it up give me a call at 425-235-7879.
We also held a class for the National Historical Society. Attendees ranged from contractors, to architects and even included a State Representative. They all got dirty! Our contractor list was available for everyone there so hopefully this will drum up some work for our membership!
I have attended several job fairs and am in the process of setting up a training facility at CBCC. If any Journey-level members would like to come in and work with certain materials or help with classes, call the above number.
Fraternally,
Matt Markham
